Consent Committee | Lead

Year round

PURPOSE/SUMMARY

On behalf of the community (with the final director’s agreement for any legal related decision such as the ability to buy a ticket) : 

  • The Consent committee is a “winter” group of volunteers that ensure a post event consent breaches reports analysis to assess if any followup is needed, make sure that all follow-up are deployed with an ethical, restorative and confidential approach to contribute as much as possible to the event long term safety, in proposing a learning path (instead of a straight ban), to anyone who broke (at a significatively level of impact on another person or risk for the event sustainability), the Nowhere Participant Code of Conduct.
  • The 2 Consent Committee co-leads are responsible for the selection of the consent breaches reports that deserve a specific follow-up
  • The 2 Consent Committee co-leads are responsible for the yearly Consent Committee Members recruitment and training
  • The 2 Consent Committee co-leads are responsible for the deployment of the consent committee action plan that they have defined together.so that the situation is clarified for the persons having been reported by May of the following year (documentation and agreement up to date).  Some of them imply an official warning email, others imply a session whose input is an agreement listing some criteria to respect if those participants want to be allowed to come back to the event.

Tasks & Time Commitment 

This is a year round role, and planning typically starts in earnest from september, taking maybe up to two hours a week for the first few months, then up to four hours a week in December, January and February

During the event the time commitment is lower as it is only about ensuring some daily check for some agreement holders.

After the event there are some wrap-up tasks and meetings before a lull until the cycle starts again. 

Here’s some of the tasks you will be getting involved in; 

Post-event 

  • August to October (2h per week)
  • Ensure a post event data analysis to assess if any followup is needed 
  • Design a statistic slideshow to be presented to the community
  • Ensure the new CC members recruitment
  • November to December (4h per week)
    • Ensure the new (and current) CC members training
    • Ensure the relationship with the reporters to confirm the level and type of follow-up
    • Ensure the relationship with the participants having broken the Nowhere Code of Conduct, no matter this s a warning email or a session

Pre-Event 

January to March (4 to 6h a per week)

  • Coordinate the session action plan and make sure the deadlines are respected
  • Define the session calendar and make sure the sessions are closed in time (end of March)
  • Ensure the relationship with the participants having broken the Nowhere Code of Conduct, no matter this s a warning email or a session
  • Ensure the relationship with the metalead and directors if there are some legal consequences for a decision that they would recommend 

April to June  (1h a per week)

  • Coordinate the session action plan and make sure the deadlines are respected
  • Ensure the relationship with the participants having broken the Nowhere Code of Conduct
  • Organise the daily check if relevant for anyone

Onsite (1 to 2h per day) 

  • Deploy the daily check action plan Support the buddy or agreement holder for any emotional they would have and encourage them to succeed
  • Represent the consent committee in case of any documentation need for the “Problemùatic Participant Protocol deployment”

Required Skills

  • Fluent in English
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • An understanding and commitment to upholding consent, with an emphasis on empathy and non-judgemental support
  • An understanding of the restorative justice approach benefits
  • Experience of managing a team of volunteers
  • Experience of rape reports, ability to deal with this topic from an emotional point of view
  • Standard IT skills including Google Drive, spreadsheets, email, social media
  • Able to commit to a year round role
