PURPOSE
To coordinate the Opening Ceremony and parade, provide support to the performers in Opening Ceremony and any Middle of Nowhere performances, and oversee the performance grants programme. To be the first point of contact for Nowhere performers pre-event and to make contact on-site to ensure everything is going to plan.
DUTIES/TASKS
Pre-Event
- Coordinate Opening Ceremony and parade including organising performances to take place during
- Ensure Malfare is kept informed of plan and parade route and where necessary take action to minimise risk
- Coordinate performances to take place in Middle of Nowhere and keep relevant leads updated
- Oversee the performance grants process including reviewing applications, notifying applicants, and ensuring that condition for payment are met
- Monitor performance budget in collaboration with Metalead
- Encourage live performers to get involved in Nowhere
- Make connections between barrios and performers where appropriate
- Maintain communication with performers to ensure that their needs are clear and can be met or if necessary, that they know what we cannot do
- Maintain presence on Nowhere social media pages
- Participate in any planning meetings relevant to your role
On-Site
- Provide on-site support to Opening Ceremony art cars and performers
- Encourage participants to get involved in Opening Ceremony and parade
- Provide assistance on-site including making introductions to Middle of Nowhere and tech teams and ensure that any logistical issues are dealt with,
- Host Opening Ceremony meeting for performers and art cars
- Ensure that Malfare is made aware of any changes to parade route/plan
- Maintain a presence on Art radio channel
- Ensure that performance schedule is listed at Middle of Nowhere and No Info
- Participate in any on-site meetings relevant to your role
- Carry out any site management shifts according to agreed rota
Post-Event
- Allocate performance grant funds
- Provide feedback and highlight any areas that may need review or improvement
- Participate in any all lead meetings for debriefing as required
- Create project plan for following Nowhere
TIME COMMITMENT
Pre-event: A few hours a week most of the year increasing as Nowhere gets closer
On-site: Daily during set-up and strike during crew working hours, with exception of days off
Post-event: A few hours a week for first couple of months following Nowhere as well as attending and participating in Annual Leads Meeting.
TIMELINE
JANUARY/FEBRUARY:
- Set deadlines for Performance Grants
- Review and change information on the website as necessary. Review and change Performance Grant information as necessary
- Answer emails from potential performers
- Manage Performers for Nowhere facebook page – start encouraging performers to start thinking about their participation and jump on board
- Make any big decisions about the management of performance and the liaison with other leads and define roles with other leads ie art and MoN.
MARCH:
- Start allocating the first few grants
- Keep checking the applications and write to the applicants via email with any questions. Remind all participants of guidelines, principals and deadlines. http://www.goingnowhere.org/en/artandinnovation/performance-grant
- Make sure all participants have tickets
- Start filling out the Performance budget spreadsheet
APRIL:
- Make final decisions on grants
- Art and performance grant application deadline- mid-April (liaise with Art Metalead)
- Ensure there is a plan for the Opening Ceremony and other big nights of performance
- Allocate any reserved ticket codes for performers
MAY:
- Confirm participation with all interested performers and musicians
- Reach out to local performers in Sariñena and surrounding areas
- Get in touch with Paul Pickup to see if Babycham need support with the Cabaret
- Start planning the schedule for MoN with Simone and Roberta
- Put performers who need technical support in touch with sound and tech
JUNE:
- Check and respond to emails every day
- Get in touch with art cars and artists who are interested in being involved in performance
- Remind performers to promote their projects
- What Where When? Guide deadline – all performers need to write in their own entries
JULY:
- Arrange to meet performers on site – Kunsthaus is a good meeting point. Make a date and time for any meetings.
- Liaise with Kunsthaus to make sure there is space for performers to store any equipment and ensure you have a key to access after operational hours
- Encourage performers to spread the word about their shows
- Check with Malfare and Nomads and art cars on Opening Ceremony route and any other details which need to be addressed.
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER:
- Allocate grant funds before end of September
- Complete post Nowhere feedback

- Experience of volunteering at Nowhere or a similar event
- Experience of budget monitoring
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Experience/familiarity with scheduling coordinating live performance
- Fluent in English
